8-11 Weeks

After seeing the doctor at 7 weeks and feeling pretty much normal, I had no idea what was in store for me. Lets just say the time between May 1st to June 5th was FOREVER long!

The best way to describe the feelings is "hungover" without the fun part of drinking and never being able to feel normal. I have basically been a tired, headachy, nauseous, hungry/not hungry mess.

I will spare you the bad details... here are some of the good details:

All the fun and gory details about morning (noon?), (night?) sickness:
Evenings seems to be the worst. As soon as I get home from work I go straight to bed and when I wake up I feel like i slept for 10 minutes. Evenings I feel nauseous, cold, achy, and decreased appetite. Mornings, I typically feel ok.

Times when I feel the worse:
Usually around 10am and 7pm. Snacks seem to help a bit.

My stomach churns at the mere scent of:
Coffee or the fridge, or leftovers.

Foods that generally calm my belly:
Cinnamon gum, goldfish, cheese-its, ice cold water

I've been seriously jonesin' for:
Month 1 - Ice cold water & cinnamon gum
Month 2 - French fries, curly fries, cinnamon gum, milkshakes, bagels
Month 3 - Red vines, bagels with egg and cheese, Chocolate covered almonds, milk, sips of an Iced mocha's, coca-cola

The thought of eating/drinking this is totally repulsive:
Months 1-3: COFFEE or tea or anything with caffeine, or anything warm to drink (so sad because prior to pregnancy I loved coffee and tea)

My philosophy when it comes to cravings:
Give the belly what it wants!

7 weeks - First OB Appt

Thankfully we did not have to wait long for our first OB appt because I am considered somewhat a special case. Not only because I was spotting but also because of my history of blood clots and have a condition called May-Thurner syndrome:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/May%E2%80%93Thurner_syndrome
We knew prior to "trying" to have a baby that I would have to do nightly injections throughout my pregnancy and post partum of a blood thinner called levonox as soon as the baby had a heartbeat.

The first appointment went great! Thankfully again, since we have so many friends that have been pregnant before I was prepped for my appt and we had been reading our "what to expect" books. And again, still not "feeling" pregnant other than tiredness...

Baby's heart beat looked great and again we got to see the blob!

The Injections...
It was recommended at this time to start the injections...I was not looking forward to that. They are completely safe during pregnancy and post partum, but they HURT! And during pregnancy you can just be more sensitive to things, especially needles! Each syringe is pre-filled, but expensive, each injection is $1 even with insurance! Each night, I find a good spot, clean it with alcohol and poke it in. The poke is not the worse part, it's the actual medicine that burns. But, the doctor has explained that I actually have it very easy and very low risk, as some pregnant women have much more to deal with. So I should stop complaining!

We decided to start the weekly photos... were still testing out the location and details as you will see

6 weeks - Heartbeat ♥

Anxiety then excitement and relief!

After our week in Vegas, I started spotting which was very scary and nerve wracking. Nothing was consistent, one day I had more spotting, while the next I would think it had stopped for a short period. My closest friends (who I shared the news with) reassured me what the signs and symptoms of a miscarriage were and that what I was experiencing was different, but I was still very concerned. My doctor ordered an Hcg level for me to get drawn. This hormone "human chorionic gonadotropin" (better known as hCG) is produced during pregnancy. It is made by cells formed in the placenta, which nourishes the egg after it has been fertilized and becomes attached to the uterine wall. The level should double within 48 hours to show the pregnancy progressing, however mine went up but did not double. Again very nervous! Thankfully, my doctor agreed to see me on April 24th, which was 1 week prior to my scheduled appointment.

THANKFULLY, everything was reassured and we got to see the heartbeat!!!

Here is the first look at baby wilder the blob:

Where the plus sign curser in the black area is the baby... very very tiny! The size of a sesame seed, crazy enough it has a heart beat!!!

After the ultrasound and being reassured everything was going fine, we could not wait for our "official" first OB appointment to find out the official due date!

April 11-16: Sober Vegas!

Spring Break April 2017
Grand Canyon West, Hoover Dam, & (Sober) Vegas

Now that I am writing this in hindsight I completely understand why people said "at least you didn't feel pregnant while you were in Vegas". I am SO thankful as well. We had an amazing time even without drinking and partying all night :)

Here are some highlight photos:

We rented a mustang convertible to tour The Grand Canyon in style!

Hoover Dam

Jameson at the hoover Dam water plant tour

A hike I did not want to do... Pregnancy actually
has made me scared of heights!

First night out!

All day pool day! Virgin Frozen Moscow Mules

Late night delicious snack!

Never go to Fremont street AKA "old town vegas" sober and during the day... GROSS!

Virgin Cucumber cocktail on left and actual alcohol to the right :)

April 5th - How did this all start?

How did this all start?

Well, I wish we could say we were just casually "not preventing" and then poof! It was a little more calculated than those stories. We were "tracking" which means to know how many days your woman's cycle is and now a days you can do a "ovulation kit" that can sometimes for some women calculate your ovulation window. So that is what we did... and the ovulation kit worked!

I made a plan to test 3 days before my expected period... I literally couldn't sleep the night before when I was planning on doing the pregnancy test, so I woke up at 4am and did the test!
And...

IT WAS POSITIVE!!!! AHHHHH!!!!

How did I tell Jameson?
Jameson and I had talked about how he wanted to find out and he wanted it to be creative... So while i was awake and freaking out with EXCITEMENT I ordered a one-day prime delivery for a book called "The Expectant Father". So that meant that I had to wait the whole 10+ hours to tell him!!! It was a really long day! But so exciting when the book arrived. When he opened the amazon package with his name on it, he pulled out the book and looked at me, then the book and said, "did you order this? Are you pregnant?" And of course we both were beyond ecstatic!

Even though I did not get my period 3 days later, I was still nervous and couldn't believe it. As we were headed to Vegas the next week, I did another pregnancy test just to be sure:

And it was still positive! Happily I had to endure a SOBER trip to Vegas for the first time ever... It was fun but a much different perspective! Thankfully I really had no symptoms of pregnancy because it was so early that I found out.
